Now
I’ve always wanted Ikon to be A great place to learn. Most things pupils learn are not taught. They JUST HAPPEN. You water a plant, pull it but it doesn’t grow. Then one day, just by stepping aside and letting the sun through, our plant grows at its own pace. We offer the conditions. Our pupils, like plants, are only given the necessary environment so Learning just happens.
A fundamental part of this environment Is the only-English rule. An occasional use of Spanish can come in handy, but it is an only English speaking lesson that makes students think in English from the 1st minute.
There are three grammar mistakes in this website.
Tomorrow
Tomorrow begins now. Tomorrow belongs to our students. Our mission is to provide them with tools to better deal with whatever they are confronted with. By promoting creativity, fun and hard work, we don’t only want them to learn English but also to grow and thrive as individuals.
Choices
What life shows us is that hard work usually pays back in the long run. Fun does it in the present moment. This distinction between hard work and fun is totally misleading. One can have fun working hard
Our mission as teachers is to show the way that the students walk through. English opens doors they say. I say students open doors with English, ideas, hard work and a communicative personality. Together, we achieve the extraordinary.
Speaking or writing
Easy answer: Both. Speaking must happen in class. Written work can be left for home. Throughout the years we have consistently encourage our students to develop their oral skills. Just as one would learn their native language. Written work is also important, but it can be done outside class hours.
Yesterday
We set off in 2006 in a third-floor flat in Petrer. I was Full of excitement and eager to put all the experienced gained teaching in Rome at the service of our potential students. Just a couple of flags from English speaking countries and word of mouth were our main marketing campaign. Our students numbers gradually and steadily grew until we saw ourselves facing the unavoidable decision: we had to find bigger premises. Ikon school started a new step of a fascinating journey. We enjoyed being near a park and it was there where we devoted ourselves to developing our own method. First teachers apart from Mike worked with us, all of them sharing a common trait: passion for teaching. The Ikon family continued to grow until we saw ourselves again moving to bigger, newer better premises. Nobody knows what the future has in store for us. What I know is that every day since we opened until the day we close, we will continue putting mountains of effort and using our most positive energy to achieve our main goal as a school: to help students learn the language we feel passionate about
